Hard Rock Cafe to open in York

York & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the news that a Hard Rock Café is to open in York city centre.

The iconic brand is to open its only outlet in Yorkshire in the old TK Maxx branch on the corner of Coney Street and Market Street. Property firm North Star Developments has issued a full planning application to City of York Council.

In addition, a 64 hotel will open above the restaurant. All told, the development will create more than 100 jobs.

Sarah Czarnecki, vice-president of York & North Yorkshire Chamber, said: ““The fact that York has been chosen as a location for such an iconic, internationally known and revered hospitality brand is a fantastic boost for the city.

“This helps to put York on the global stage alongside cities such as San Francisco, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Rome and Paris – to name but a few.

“The development will help attract more tourists to the city centre and augment the development of Coney Street. The Chamber congratulates everyone involved in getting this deal over the line.”
