Bradford celebrates 10th anniversary as City of Film

Bradford is set to enjoy a year-long programme of celebratory events and activities as it enters its 10th year as a UNESCO City of Film. Driven by the city’s rich film heritage, Bradford is the world’s first UNESCO City of Film. Since the bestowment as a world centre for film, the City of Film has maintained a packed programme of film-related events and has utilised the title as a means to drive urban development. For this year’s anniversary, a varied programme of events celebrating the anniversary has been shaped by the City of Film, including workshops, festivals, showings and Screen Talks from those who have worked on productions such as Top Gear and Peaky Blinders. Sandy Needham, Chief Executive of the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, attended the anniversary event at the National Science and Media Museum earlier this month as a member of the City of Film board. The Chamber has worked closely with City of Film Director David Wilson and the rest of the board for the past 10 years and is looking forward to doing so in the future. Sandy Needham commented on the anniversary: “David and the board have and continue to do a great job for the city and the wider district. Having Bradford as part of the UNESCO network is fantastic recognition for the city and helps to promote the opportunities it has to offer. We look forward to another 10 years.” The 10th anniversary celebrations are designed to shine a spotlight on the creativity of some of the local projects in the area and will take place for the rest of the year.
